Zmanda Windows Client 3.0.2 release provides bug fixes for issues reported by Amanda Enterprise Windows Client customers. Upgrade to this release from Zmanda Windows Client 3.0 is mandatory.
It is important to read Amanda 3.0 release notes which features are part of 3.0 release. All 3.0 release features are included in Zmanda Windows Client 3.0.2
Compatibility with previous versions of Windows Client
- Zmanda Windows Client 3.0.2 replaces Zmanda Windows Client 3.0 and 3.0.1 and is compatible with Amanda 3.0.x backup sets and backup images.
Installation procedure
Note: Amanda backup or restoration should not be in progress during the client installation
- Download the Zmanda Windows Client 3.0.2 from Zmanda Network Downloads page (Zmanda network login is required) depending on the Windows client architecture (32bit or 64bit) and Windows server/desktop configuration.
- Copy the client to the Windows machine.
- Run the setup.exe from the Zmanda Windows Client 3.0.2 zip archive.
List of changes
- Significant improvements in client encryption of backup images. Use of Zmanda Key container for key management.
- SQL server and SharePoint server backup and recovery bug fixes
- Launch pre- and post-restore scripts for templates.
- ZWC works on machines where another backup software is installed and logs appropriate message.
- ZWC does not try to backup folder data.
- Fixes to restoration of System state for a machine with Active Directory.
- Fixes to backup of Oracle on Windows.
- System State backup on Vista fails with error code 2709226. This issue has been fixed.
- ZWC support tool will check if it is being run as Administrator. It should be run as Administrator user to capture all relevant information for analyzing the reported problem.
- Zmanda Windows client service, ZWCservice crashes during backup of c:\ drive on Windows 2003 and 2008 servers. The Zmanda Management Console reports Connection refused or Connection timed out.
- Backup of Windows Vista and 2008 server fails with error 260 - too many file backup failures. The list of files that failed are stored in BackupErrors.txt on the Windows client installation location under the Debug folder.
- Backup and restoration of Windows 2008 server with Active Directory and SYSVOL (System Volume) replicated using DFRS.
- Support for backup and recovery of SQL 2008 server.
Known Problems
- Zmanda Windows Client 3.0.2 uses the Zmanda key container for key management and earlier versions of ZWC 3.0.x used the DEFAULT key container. The client encrypted backups of Windows client done using older 3.0.x releases cannot be restored using ZWC 3.0.2. Please contact Zmanda Support team for help on how to restore older Windows client encrypted backup images.
