Scheduler is a functionality which helps schedule a backup or vault job to a specific date/time of the days, weeks, months, year.   

If there are no schedules created, the “schedule plan” page table will be empty as shown below: - 

 

 

 

To create a new schedule user needs to click on the Add Schedule button which opens up a drawer containing various options to create a schedule.  

 

 

 

 

The user has various types of schedules to select which are :  

  1. Daily   
  2. Weekly  
  3. Monthly by Weeks  
  4. Monthly by Days  

 

 

 

 

  1. Daily Schedule –   

This type of schedule is for the type of jobs that are to be repeated based on a daily basis as specified by the user.  

When the user selects add schedule the default tab will be daily schedule, this tab will be having many input fields which are   

  • Schedule Name –   

The user provides the schedule name to be created with. The schedule name to be inputted should be a minimum of 7 characters and be alphanumeric.  

  •   Time Zone –   

The user has various time zone to select the scheduled date with depending on the time zone the time gets updates although the time selected will be later converted to UTC on the backup server. The time zone ensures that date discrepancy is not seen due to the server local time where ZMC is hosted at.  

 

 

 

 

  • Schedule Date –   

The scheduled date is another field that provides the user to select the start date of the schedule this includes a date picker where the user can select the date required to start the schedule.   

 

 

 

 

  • Full Backup Time Specified –  

This option/checkbox will enable the user to specify the time at which the full backup time will be triggered.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Select Backup type for weekly-days / Days –  

The Backup type for weekly -days and days are of mainly 4 types which are:  

·         Auto   

·         Full Backup  

·         Incremental Backup   

·         No Backup  

 

 

 

 

 

Each one as the name specifies the type of backup service which will be provided at the week or day specified.  

These fields are the same for Daily, Weekly, and Monthly by weeks schedule type but for Monthly by Days type the fields will be based on days.  

 

 

 

 

  1. Weekly –  

 This schedule type is similar to the daily type with all the fields similar to the ones present under Daily with the exception that there is another field called Select Weeks.  

  •  Schedule Name: Name the schedule.  
  •  Schedule Date: Date from when you want to start backups Weekly  
  •  Select Hours: The time you want to take a backup. Ex : 00, 02, 13, 23.  
  •  Start Time Minute: The time you want to take a backup. Ex : anything between 0-59  
  •  Full Backup Time Specified: If checked? select hours & minutes for the same.  
  •  Select Weeks: Select weeks of the month anything between 1-5 week as a schedule.  
  •   Select Backup type for Weekly Days: You can select backup types options out of Full/Incremental/Auto for each day of the week.  

  

 

 

 

 

  1. Monthly by Weeks –   

This schedule type is similar to the daily type with all the fields similar to the ones present under Weekly with the exception that there is another field called Select Months.  

  •    Schedule Name: Name the schedule.  
  •   Schedule Date: Date from when you want to start backups Weekly  
  • Select Hours: The time you want to take a backup. Ex : 00, 02, 13, 23.  
  •  Start Time Minute: The time you want to take a backup. Ex: anything between 0-59  
  •  Full Backup Time Specified: If checked? Select hours & minutes for the same as step 3 & 4.  
  •   Select Months: Select months of the year anything between Jan-Dec month as a schedule.  
  •   Select Weeks: Select weeks of the month anything between 1-5 weeks as a schedule.  
  •  Select Backup type for Weekly Days: You can select backup types options out of Full/Incremental/Auto for each day of the week.  

 

 

 

 

  1. Monthly by days –   

This schedule type is similar to the daily type with all the fields similar to the ones present under Monthly by Weeks with the exception that there is no Select Weeks field but there is Select Month field and a Select Backup Type for Days field. 

  • Schedule Name: Name the schedule. 
  • Schedule Date: Date from when you want to start backups Weekly  
  • Select Hours: The time you want to take a backup. Ex : 00, 02, 13, 23. 
  • Start Time Minute: The time you want to take a backup. Ex : anything between 0-59  
  • Full Backup Time Specified: If checked? Select hours & minutes for the same as step 3 & 4.  
  • Select Months: Select months of the year anything between Jan-Dec month as a schedule.  
  • Select Backup type for Days: You can select backup types options out of Full/Incremental/Auto for each day of the month.  

  

  

 

 

 

 

 

This concludes the various options for Add schedule option. Once the schedule is created the user can see the schedule information on the page under a tabular format with many columns.  

 

 

 

 

The table on the page has many columns: Name, Type, Start Date and Actions.  

  

Name: This column specifies the name of the schedule given.  

Type: It shows the type of the schedule created which are   

1.Daily – This type of schedule is for the type of jobs which are to be repeated based on a daily basis as specified by the user.  

2.Weekly- This type of schedule is for the type of jobs which are to be repeated based on a weekly basis as specified by the user.  

3.Monthly Weekly- This type of schedule is for the type of jobs which are to be repeated based on a monthly basis and on specified weeks as selected by the user.  

4.Monthly Days - This type of schedule is for the type of jobs which are to be repeated based on a monthly basis and on specified days as selected by the user.  

  

This column contains a filter based on the above types as show below -   

  

 

 

 

Start Date: This column specifies the start date of the schedule as specified by the user.  

  

Actions: This column specifies the actions that can be performed by the user which are – edit, clone and delete.  

  

  1. Edit – Gives the user access to edit the schedule based on certain fields. All the fields which are available to the user can be edited with the exception of schedule name and type.

 

 

 

 

  1. Clone – Gives the user the feature to clone the selected schedule and create an exact copy of the parameters which were on the parent one. Here the user needs to provide the name of the schedule to be created.  

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Delete – Deletes the schedule as specified. Here the binding-device-cron file gets removed from the backupset folder   

If the backupset was activated with the schedule then the cron file gets removed under the /etc/amanda/aee4/ folder where the cron files get stored after backupset activation.
