Preface

Preface

Welcome to the Zmanda Management Console (ZMC) User's Manual for Amanda Enterprise 2.6.4. This manual covers the following topics:

  • Preparing a backup configuration to back up a network of systems.
  • Monitoring and generating reports on backup runs.
  • Administration tasks related to the software.
  • How to restore/recover data. (Please note that Restore and Recover are used interchangeably throughout the manual.)

Conventions followed in the Manual

  • Command line examples and program output are displayed in a box:
# This is a system message.
  • Menu options, button names, and other interactive controls are shown in boldface type. For example: Choose Configure... from the pop-up menu.
  • Boldface type also denotes literal portions of a command line; italic type denotes a variable that you must substitute with an actual value. For example,
Enter copy filename
means that you should type "copy" followed by the actual file name you wish to copy, followed by the Enter key.
  • The term Localhost is used to refer to the server on which ZMC is installed and the term Remote host is used to refer to other servers that are to be backed up.

Conventions followed in the Software

A red asterisk * character against an input field denotes a mandatory field (in other words, you must supply a value).

Please Note

The ZMC is designed to only show you the software options necessary for the given context, which can change depending on how the fields on a given dialog are set. This User Guide notes where dialog appearance can change based on context. If a screen shot in the User Guide is showing different options than are being displayed on your Zmanda console, check how you have set the dialog options carefully to ensure that they match what the manual is showing.
