Backup Manager
Overview
Backup Manager is a command-line utility designed to manage various backup workloads across your organization’s IT infrastructure. While the tool supports multiple workloads, the current release is focused on RMAN (Oracle Recovery Manager). This provides users with a powerful and flexible solution for automating and managing Oracle database backups.
Backup Manager is designed to help you initiate, configure, monitor, and manage backups with ease, offering robust features to enhance your backup strategy.
Protected Items (PIs)
Main PI: This is the primary configuration entity for Zmanda Pro Backup Manager. A main PI represents a specific source configuration and contains all the necessary settings, set of data or files for backup and parameters for that job. Users create and manage main PIs to define their backup tasks.
Autogenerated PI: These are automatically created Protected Item derived from the main PI. Autogenerated PI's are used to handle specific aspects of the backup process, such as individual channel backups for RMAN to parallelize the backup job. They inherit settings from the main PI, and include specific files based on its aspect of the backup.
Autogenerated dbconfig PI: This special autogenerated PI stores all the configurations set up during the
backupmanager configure
command. This configuration is included in the server's self-backup and serves as the source for loading configurations for all the Backup Manager process.
Important Note: Please do not delete any autogenerated PIs. These are crucial for the proper functioning of Backup Manager and contain essential configuration data.
