Getting Started with Xtrabackup Workload

  1. Installation: Download the latest backupmanager executable. The installation process is currently supported only for Linux distributions.

    1. Backupmanager supports Xtrabackup backup and recovery for MySQL exclusively for RPM and Debian-based Linux distributions and flavors.

      yum install zmandapro-backupmanager-1.0.0-x86_64.rpm

  2. Configuration: Once installed, begin by logging in and configuring the protected items (i.e., the MySQL databases backup and recovery). You can do this by using the configuration command which is an interactive tool that allows you to configure protected item for the required workload.

  3. Initiating Backups: Run your Xtrabackup backups on demand with a single command on the client. You can also schedule automated backups using Zmanda Pro's scheduling options.

  4. Monitoring: Stay updated with the real-time progress of your backups. Apart from the server job log report backupmanager's progress reporter provides detailed status updates on the client’s terminal for client triggered operations, to ensure your backups are running smoothly.

Configuration

Backupmanager provides the capability to configure Percona Xtrabackup which can perform backup and recovery of MySQL server. You can define backup settings and customize key parameters for the workload.

Prerequisites:

  1. MySQL Database Configuration: Linux:

    1. Install and configure MySQL database

    2. Start and enable MySQL service

      # Start the service systemctl start mysql/mysqld # Enable the service systemctl enable mysql/mysqld

  2. Zmanda Pro client installed and registered.

  3. Backupmanager installed and login configured.
