# Step 6: Initiating a Backup

If you configured schedules in the Protected Item settings then jobs will begin to run on those schedules automatically.

You can initiate backups manually from the client device or through the Zmanda Pro console. Here’s how to run a backup using the Zmanda Pro console:

1. Go to the **Users** page on the Zmanda Pro console.
2. Select the user associated with the device you want to back up.
3. Under **Protected Items**, find the item you wish to back up and click **Run Backup**.
4. In the setup wizard, select the storage vault you want to use and adjust any other settings as necessary.
5. Click **Backup** to start the backup process.

#### Monitoring and Managing Backups

* [**Track Ongoing Jobs**](https://docs.zmanda.com/start-here/step-7-checking-backup-job-status): Visit the **Job Logs** page to see backup, restore, and other activities. If you need to stop a backup, you can do so by clicking the **Cancel** button inside the job report of a specific job.
* **Multiple Backup Jobs**: You have the flexibility to create multiple backup jobs for different devices, each directed to separate storage vaults. This allows tailored backup strategies for various needs.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.zmanda.com/start-here/step-6-initiating-a-backup.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
