VMs Restore Process

In this part, we'll discuss the VMs' Restore What, Restore Where, Restore How, and Restore Now pages.

Zmanda ensures VMware data recovery, swiftly restoring critical virtual machines and addressing data loss, corruption, and hardware issues.

Let's go through each step of VMware’s restoration process.

  1. Restore What: This page allows you to choose what you would like to restore. This step includes the following:

ii) Directory/Path - The directory that you wish to restore. This must match the directories you specified when configuring the source that is being restored.

iii) Restore Preferences - You have the option of selecting Restore All or Search specific files.

Restore All - This option restores everything from the directory specified in the Directory/Path section.

Search specific files - When searching for specific files, you have various options: "anything" for a general search, "starts with" to find files with a particular beginning, "ends with" to locate files with a specific ending, and "exact match" to pinpoint files with precise names.

Once you have selected what you wish to restore, click NEXT.

  1. Restore Where - This page gives the location where your data will be restored to. Here you must select the Destination Type. The credentials you provide must be valid for the target ESX, the virtual machine name you enter must be distinct, and the datastore must be located on the host. If any of these validations are inaccurate, you will not be able to proceed past the Restore Where page.

You can go to the Restore How page if the virtual machine name is distinct and the credentials provided are accurate. A pop-up message indicating success will appear.

  • An error notice will ask you to specify a unique username if the virtual machine name provided is not unique.

  • The error message “datastore could not be found on the hostname” will appear if the datastore name specified is not found on vSphere.

  • The user will not be able to move on to other pages, and an error message stating "Restore Where update failed" will appear if the login information provided is incorrect.

  1. Restore How - This page provides instructions on managing files and folders on your restore target. You have the option to replace existing files, create new ones, or skip the restoration altogether. Once you have completed the configuration, click on the Next button to proceed.

  1. Restore Now - After completing all the necessary configurations in the previous steps, you can now make further adjustments using the advanced options. These options include configuring timeout settings and performing checksums. Feel free to customize these settings according to your preferences. Finally, when you're ready to begin the data restoration process, simply click the green play button.

The virtual machine restoration process is done, and everything is back to normal. Now you can make the most of their abilities again.
